Portugal is no exception. Temperatures can reach 36 ºC (96.8 Fahrenheit) or even higher. 🥵

May 26th
- Leiria
- Lisboa
- Setúbal
- Santarém
- Portalegre
- Évora
- Beja
May 27th to May 28th
All districts except Faro and Islands of Madeira and Azores.
Thunder may occur on the 27th, in the North of Portugal (interior regions), accompanied by rain, hail and gusts of wind.
May 29th to May 30th
All interior districts (Viseu, Bragança, Vila Real, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja).

Recommendations to protect from Heat Wave in Portugal
Basic Health Recommendations
- Wear light-weight, white/light colors, and cotton/linen clothes
- Avoid outdoor sports
- Drink water (see the quantity recommended according to health authorities)
- Avoid alcoholic drinks
- Avoid direct sun exposure between 11 AM and 5 PM
- Use sunscreen at least SPF30 (SPF50 better) and reapply every two hours or after being in water
- Wear a hat and sunglasses outside
- Contact elderly and vulnerable people regularly (they are the most affected by these heat waves)
- Take extra care of the most vulnerable groups: children, elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, and workers exposed to heat.

How to deal with tropical nights in Portugal

- Close windows and blinds during the day, especially during peak heat hours, to keep the indoor air cool.

- Switch to lightweight cotton or linen sheets and breathable sleepwear.
