Tips to Deal with Hot Temperatures in Portugal

  • Drink enough water
  • Close windows and blinds during the day, especially during peak heat hours, to keep the indoor air cool.
  • Stay in locations with AC if possible
  • Avoid doing exercise outside or sunbathing in the hours of most heat (normally between 11AM and 5PM)
  • Choose indoor activities during the hottest part of the day
  • Wear light, white clothes
  • Wear sunscreen (reapply every two hours or after a swim), a hat and sunglasses when outside.
  • Switch to lightweight cotton or linen sheets and breathable sleepwear.

Hot temperatures in Portugal can make you want to sunbathe and swim in the ocean, but make sure to check if there are lifeguards and if you are avoiding sunbathing in the heat peak hours.

⚠️ Also, making fires, working with machinery or doing any activity that can create fires are prohibited in most regions of Portugal during these next days. More information on this here.
