In summary, the Portugal Strike April 17 is expected to cause disruptions across key sectors, particularly transportation and public services. As labor tensions continue in the country following major strikes in late 2025, unions and workers are once again mobilizing to demand better conditions, fair wages, and changes to government policies.

One of the most likely impacts of the Portugal Strike April 17 is disruption to transportation. As the strike falls at the end of the workweek, disruptions may be more noticeable as people travel home.

So far, in terms of transport, only TUB (buses in Braga) SMTUC (buses in Coimbra) and TCB (buses in Barreiro) have confirmed participation in the strike. More buses may be affected on this day.

Sectors affected: public transportation (not all will adhere to the strike), public schools, public hospitals, health centers and other public services. Some restaurants, hotels and commerce may also be affected.

Municipal and regional services may operate on a limited basis. AIMA is one of the entities that may be affected by the strike.

Tips for Portugal Strike on April 17?

  • Walking and cycling can be practical alternatives for short distances
  • Adjust travel times: traveling outside peak hours can improve your chances of finding available transport.
  • Opt for taxis/uber/private transfers
  • Work remotely if possible: many businesses allow or encourage remote work to avoid commuting disruptions.
  • Plan ahead for essential services: public healthcare and administrative offices may operate at reduced capacity – schedule visits carefully.
  • Check limited transport services: some trains, buses, and metro lines may still run under minimum service requirements. Confirm schedules in advance with operators like CP (no confirmation yet regarding participation in the strike).
  • See other public transportation: sometimes other types of public transportation like trains, metro or buses can be available (As of now-Thursday morning- only some bus companies have confirmed their participation in the strike.)

Safe travels! (this article may be updated as hours go by)
