Expect Intense Rain and Thunder this weekend!

After some days of sun, rain and thunder is back to say hello. No beach trips this weekend!

Expect heavy rain and thunder this weekend across several regions of Portugal. Winds may also be strong in certain areas, especially along the coast. Find out below which districts will be more affected below and get some special tips at the end.

🟡Yellow Rain Warnings (may be accompanied by thunder)

Update (morning of May 9th): Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Porto, Viseu, Bragança and Guarda have joined our list of rain yellow alerts. Azores (central group islands) are also on yellow alert for rain starting at 9PM.

  • Azores Islands (with the exception of the ocidental group of islands)

Update 2: On May 11th, it is expected to rain (with some thunder), especially in the North of Portugal and Azores Islands.

🟡Yellow Wind Warnings (wind gusts up to 75 km/h – 46mph)

Tips for the Heavy Rain, Wind and Thunder this Weekend

  • Stay indoors whenever possible
  • If you really need to go out, drive with precaution and watch out for flying objects
  • Power outages may occur during thunderstorms. So, be prepared and avoid using the elevator. More thunder tips in our previous article.
