2 Portuguese museums in Lisbon nominated for European Museum of the Year Award

Getting to Lisbon can sometimes take a little bit of time, but it is definitely a unique experience walking through its streets and visiting museums.

The Design Museum (MUDE) and the Lisbon Museum, Palácio Pimenta were among the 34 nominees for the European Museum of the Year Award.

Although neither museum ultimately received the award, their nomination alone is a testament to the quality of their exhibitions, and cultural significance. If you’re visiting Lisbon, both museums offer outstanding opportunities to explore the city’s rich heritage, creativity, and contemporary identity.

MUDE – Museum of Design & Fashion

In the historic center of Lisbon, you’ll find a cool fashion & design museum. This museum in Lisbon is called MUDE.a museum dedicated to all forms of design.

It’s name is a verb (mude) that reflects its mission: the ability to change (mudar), transform, and adapt culture and society through creativity.

Following its renovation, MUDE presents its permanent exhibition program on the evolution of national and international design across its various forms: product, fashion, graphic. There are also temporary exhibitions.

Museum of Lisbon – Pimenta Palace

Step into the heart of Lisbon’s story at the Museum of Lisbon – Pimenta Palace, housed in the elegant 18th-century Pimenta Palace and surrounded by the remnants of a historic manor estate and beautiful gardens

Apart from visiting the gardens, there are many interesting exhibitions to see. The long-term exhibition shows the evolution of the city from prehistoric times to the end of the 20th century. There’s also two  temporary exhibition areas and guided tours.
